There's nothing like a swords and sandals movie on a cold, drizzly Sunday afternoon. It's been a while since the last time I've seen Gladiator, but it always makes me emotional when I see it. It must be the soundtrack, though, because Hans Zimmer composed it so beautifully. There's nothing as poignant as the motif from 'Honor Him' - and honestly, Maximus's death would have been underplayed had it not been for the music. It's hard to watch a movie when you only know the soundtrack to it so well, and it's all so well-combined with the scenes, but I'm so prone to noticing when one song starts and ends, and when nothing's being played at all.
Alexander's a little different though. I think I just like the movie in general, and I have a thing for promoting Alexander and Hephaistion as a couple. And Vangelis really composed such a wonderful compilation that I don't really notice the scene switches to the musical switches. It's all nuanced so well. Allie and I were going to watch Alexander together but she had to leave early, which was a little disappointing. But at least she stayed for Gladiator. Maybe next week we'll watch Troy and Tristan + Isolde, since that would tie well for love stories, and then after that maybe Kingdom of Heaven and King Arthur. We'll just see how our schedules work out.
